Homicide investigation launched after woman found dead in Edgeware, Christchurch

What happened

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead at a property on Purchas Street in Edgeware, Christchurch, early on Wednesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said police were called to the address just before 6am. A woman was found dead when officers arrived.

Police say a second person who was at the address is speaking with them. Baillie said police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the death, and that there is not believed to be any risk to public safety.

A scene guard is in place and a long driveway at the property has been cordoned off. A neighbour said there had been a gathering at the property before the woman was found. Police have not commented on that.

St John says it was told of an incident just before 6am and sent one ambulance, which was not needed.
